Meg Ryan, blonde-haired and blue-eyed
She was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield Connecticut to Susan
(Duggan) an ex- actor and English teacher, as well as Harry Hyra, a maths
teacher. She is of Ruthenian, Polish, Irish, and German roots. ("Hyra"
is an Irish and Ruthenian surname and "Ryan" is the maiden name of
her maternal grandmother). Meg has graduated from Bethel High School, Bethel in
May 1979. Meg relocated to New York City and studied journalism at New York
University. To earn some extra cash while working on her degree, Meg went into
acting under the name Meg Ryan. Her debut on screen came in 1981 when she made
a brief appearance as Candice Bergen’s daughter in George Cukor's final film
Rich and Famous (1981). She was auditioned for and cast as Betsy in the day
time soap on television As the World Turns (1956). The show starred her from
1982 until 1984. Meg also appeared in the TV series One of the Boys (1982),
however, this show was later removed. In 1984, Meg emigrated to Hollywood, and was
offered a part in the western television series Wildside (1985). Meg played a
minor role in Top Gun (1986), which led her to be cast in Steven Spielberg's
Innerspace (1987), where she was a co-star with Dennis Quaid. She starred again
with Quaid in the remake of D.O.A. (1988) and was married on Saint Valentine's
Day 1991. Meg made an appearance in the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally...
(1989), and the scene in the restaurant became famous. Meg was nominated to
both the Golden Globe and the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as
DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She was also a part of the critically acclaimed
Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in which she received nominations for the Golden Globe.
Meg decided that she would act against her peers in 1994, by playing the part
of Meg as a mother and wife who is alcoholic in the film When a Man Loves a
Woman (1994). After that, Meg went back to her "cute" I.Q. (1994) and
French Kiss (1995). People Magazine voted Meg as one of the 50 most beautiful
people on earth 1994.
